Description
“Year Twenty-One” is the twenty-second painting in the “34” Series by Laura Noel, completed in 2018-2019. The series was an experiment in “abstract as autobiography,” where each painting of the series was meant to loosely represent a year of the artist’s life.
A few words about “Year Twenty-One” from the artist:
This was my Junior year of college. It was also a year of grief and mourning, as I lost my father to an aggressive cancer. I also suffered my first (and hopefully last!) broken bone when I crashed my bicycle going down a hill in San Francisco. I was learning how to navigating difficult feelings, and additionally had to scramble to figure out a pathway to graduation as my college suddenly discontinued the major I had signed up for and been studying for three years.
