“34” is a series of interconnected abstract paintings created to celebrate my 34th birthday in 2018. The series was an experiment in “Abstract Art as Autobiography”, with each painting of the series loosely representing a year of my life and the significant feelings and emotions associated with that year.
They are all large- scale 2 foot by 3 foot abstract works in acrylic paint. I tried out a lot of new techniques with this series and embraced the additional challenge of attempting to convey a sense of autobiography to works that are inherently abstract.
I finished the series in July, 2019, and debuted the entire series at a shared show with another local artist in August of the same year. I wanted to have at least one show where the entire 34 set could be viewed as a whole before offering the individual works for sale. The show was well received and a very satisfying conclusion to the project.
In time frame, quantity, and scale, this was the most ambitious personal art project I had taken on to date. I hope to create more epic interconnected works in the future.
